Ice Lake Found on Mars | planet mars |

U.S.
space agency, NASA, recently found a dried up lake ice beneaththe Martian soil. Lake ice is carbon dioxide greater than scientistspreviously estimated.

Material remaining carbon dioxide is thought by scientists from the former layer of the atmosphere of Mars in the past when the Redplanet has conditions conducive to life.

  "I
t's really a treasure," said Jeffrey Plaut, a scientist who worked atNASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, in a report that appears in the journal Science, was quoted as saying Pravda.ru, Saturday, April 23, 2011.

"We found something in the basement that was never recognized byanyone before,"said Plaut.

This finding was first captured by the radar observations NASA's MarsReconnaissance Orbiter, which floated on the surface of Mars. SpaceRadar is a radar which was created specifically to find out clues signs of life on Mars.

The lake ice measuring 3,000 kilometers cubic, or the equivalentvolume of Lake Superior. He holds the carbon dioxide is very large, up to two times the mass of the Martian atmosphere. When comparedwith the Earth, the Martian atmosphere has a surface pressure of lessthan 1 percent. And, about 95 percent of the air on Mars is carbondioxide, than the Earth has only 0.04 percent of CO2.

"We already know that there is carbon dioxide over the rest of the little ice on the surface of Mars. But, this one volume is 30 times more thanpreviously estimated," said Roger Phillips, another scientist from theSouthwest Research Institute in Colorado and also served as thedeputy team leader for the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter radar.
